Hello from a Star Wars Fan

Hi, I hope I'm putting this in the correct forum--sorry if I'm not.

My name is Jace and a member of the board I go to found this site and was telling us how cool it was so I thought I'd drop in take a look and say hi.

I'm 31 so I grew up with the original trilogy and 3PO was always my favorite character. I had a great thrill last year at Disney's Star Wars Weekends when I got to meet Anthony Daniels (as a side note I was a bit disappointed when he acted pretty snobby at the event and was demeaning to a few folks) and I admit I went a bit fan boy when I got to talk to him close up in person LOL.

When it comes to costuming I'd love to build a costume and I've perused sites like this including the 501st and Rebel Legion but I have a few things stacked up against me:
1. Time--I work on average 50 hours a week (work as a department director in a health care setting) and those extra 10 hours a week really puts me at a disadvantage as I try my best to lead a balanced life style with a mixture of time with family, friends, attending sporting games, and my time on the net (I operate a website and am an admit at a Science Fiction/StarWars/Entertainment runboard). So I have a question--how time consuming is it to build your own costume?

2. Skill--I wasn't born with an artistic gene in my body. I can't sing, can't draw, heck I can't even draw a straight line. I see the elaborate costumes that are made and I'm like--dang I could never do that. Or am I wrong? How hard is it.

3. Size--I'm a pretty big guy. I'm pretty tall and of a larger stature (nice way to say I'm fat LOL) and especially seeing Anthony Daniels he is pretty thin. Are there larger guys (or gals) who do costuming too? Are there options for us?

Ok that about sums up who I am--sorry for being a noob here and asking a ton of questions right away.

Take care and you folks have a great site here!

Welcome to the board Jace! I can only speak for my own parts, maybe others can offer opinions on other suppliers/options for you.

My kit parts info can be found in the Parts Dept.
The largest person these parts can fit would be 5'10", 165lbs, 33" waist, 40" chest.

Hello, Jace

Nice to meet you

Well for myself I love costuming!! Been in the 501st since 2006.
I've put together a Darth Vader Costume/Armor
TK armor and TD armor.
A Chewbacca costume and Han Solo costume

I'm now working off and on with my Snow Trooper Armor

But my masterpiece armor will be my 3P0 armor I've gotten from
The land down under.

Here's the kicker....

In March I received the last of the armor weighing 230lbs at 5'10" tall.
I've been chubby since 2001.

I have determination to do this... I know I can.
It hasn't been easy. I now weigh 205lbs.

C3P0 is going to be my determination to lose the weight and to be at
5'10", 165lbs, 33" waist, 40" chest (my top armor will have to be altered a little) by October.

So it can be done.... You just have to put your mind to it.

May The Force Be With You

May The Force Be With Me
and my weight loss not to mention putting that C3P0 armor together!!!

When you get a chance... check out my website

Thanks, D3po2

I'm glad to be here. I will be asking lots of questions between now and October. More at the end of the summer.

Looking forward to shedding the pounds and fixing the 3P0 armor!
