Back Mod

OK, So we all know the 3PO costume has VERY VERY little room for ANYTHING!

Like Chris, I have put my amp in the back.

Problem was, getting to it once it was on to adjust volume or change battery ment having to remove hands, arms, bells, rings, chest and back.

Well, I did something UNTHINKABLE! I CUT THE BOX OFF HIS BACK!

I then used some finerglass and body filler to make a small lip on the now open back piece so when box goes back on there isnt a gap.
I also added made box fit almost perfectly flush once put back on.

I went to home depot and got 4 of those grabbing cabinet latches. Added 2 to the top of the box and 2 on the bottom on the inside.
This will lock in when placed on, yet can be removed if needed!

So here is a pic of the 3PO in the SW-WSMI exhibit

Here are pics of my mod to mine...

Rotating shoulder rings has been a part of the hold up on getting my suit done...
I have a few ideas, but finding the right stuff, and in the right sizes has been nearly impossible so far. If I have any luck, I'll be sure to start a thread for it.

Re: Back Mod

I went head and made this mod using rare earth magnets... It worked beautifully!

I laid some extra fiberglass and embedded the magnets in the resin. I made sure they all lined up properly, and then made everything look nice with more fiberglass and spot filler emoticon

Here are some pictures:

I would be happy to take better pictures on answer any questions if anyone else is planning on doing this.
