Wearing the suit experience !
I am contemplating to make the 3PO I have wearable, and have set a 1 year deadline to do it for a convention,(I built three R2's last year)
and wanted to ask about your experience in wearing the suit.
what do you like and dislike with the decisions you made on the buildup, and do you have trouble with the suit, like pinching body parts , and damage due to wearing.
I know the eyes are not great to see around, but how much visibility do the eyes have and is improvement possible ?
I was thinking about using lenses or door spy in the eye to improve the view around.
and about the sticking out parts, pistons !, do they break a lot, and is metal a must ?
those are the questions for now

Re: Wearing the suit experience !
Funny that you mention the Door spy/lense in the eyes. I'd actually thought about doing that myself.
I bought a couple and if you can line them up well there would be no double vision problems. Tho I think it would be pretty hard to line them up...
You can see better, but not close up. I think it would be great for walking and seeing in front of you, but if you had to look at something nearly in front of you it would be impossible. I was also worried about wearing a lense like that for long periods. I think there would be potential eye damage or at least a pounding headache.
I'm not done with mine, but I'm also looking forward to it!

Re: Wearing the suit experience !
Hi,
It's difficult enough to see small kids when they come up to you or stand close for a photo.
Don't know what it would be like with long distance sniper lenses in
I've not had the suit on for about a year now, it's much easier to play with R2 but I'm going to have to dust the cob webs off for a big charity event in London early December!
See ya

Re: Wearing the suit experience !
You MUCT have at least 1 person to help you get into and out of it.
You MUST have a spotter. Seeing is almost imposible.
dont plan on wearing it for more than a couple hours max. It is very tight, very hot and for me hurts
If it wasnt for the great reactions and lack of any other 3pos around, I wouldnt wear it as much as I do

Re: Wearing the suit experience !
I think the same thing about being Darth Maul. If it weren't for the great reactions, it wouldn't be worth it. lol
The make-up takes forever to get on and off, the contact lenses can dry your eyes, and your legs get sore if you do any low poses.
BUT I doubt it's not even half the pain that Threepio is. At least the costume is comfortable for Maul... lol
I'm excited to get Threepio done, but I'm not sure that I'm ready for the pain... (who am I kidding? Of course I am or I'd not be doing it! lol)

Re: Wearing the suit experience !
>>what do you like and dislike with the decisions you made on the buildup
I've built two of my kits for my own use and enjoyed every bit of it. The parts arrive finished anyway so I didn't have to do anything difficult.
>>do you have trouble with the suit, like pinching body parts , and damage due to wearing.
The only problem I have is at the back of my right leg where the bottom of the thigh back rubs on my leg. That's easily fixed though. I just need to possibly make a belt to suspend the thighs from so they aren't resting on my feet.
>>I know the eyes are not great to see around, but how much visibility do the eyes have and is improvement possible ?
I was thinking about using lenses or door spy in the eye to improve the view around.
Here's what it looks like from the wearer's point of view in the suit (drag your mouse around):
>>and about the sticking out parts, pistons !, do they break a lot, and is metal a must ?
Mine haven't broken yet in 2 years and tens of thousands of miles and scores of events and I use the fiberglass pistons that ship with my kit.
