Pics of my r2d2 as it is now
hi folks
as requested, heres some pics of my r2d2, the dome, believe it or not started as a mixing bowl, for 8 pounds,($16) took a bit of work but really pleased, unfortunaly i cant get them anymore, got a few for uk builders, but then they ran out. the lights are all running on batterys at mo, and hes a static droid, but ive allowed for wires etc and i can pop the feet back of, let me know what you guys think.

Re: Pics of my r2d2 as it is now
hi
thanks for comments, it was a kitchen store that supplied industrial too, it was a perfect 18 inches across, and although it took some work to get it right, im very pleased with results, i took of the bottom lip and handle, which were rivited on, then filled holes with car filler, cut lip of, and my original plan was to sit it on a astromech ring, from a dome kit, but the ring sort of fell into the bowl, the bowl swelled slightly, when lip was cut off,so i stuck it there, and a aluminuim strip and rivited to the bit of the dome ring that was sticking out, i flated the rivit heads, and hid the join with filler and the blue band that goes round r2, all panels are etched on, i have looked hard, trust me for some more of these, i ended up getting 5, for other builders, and was letting them have them at what i was paying, one builder to another, but i cant seem to find another supplier? i will keep looking though.

Re: Pics of my r2d2 as it is now
You've put alot of time and effort into R2's detail and it looks great! Keep us updated on the progress. Thank you for posting the close up pictures as it really shows off the droid well.
Cheers!

Re: Pics of my r2d2 as it is now
drum roll please, heres r2's last few pics, without dome and finally with dome, its been a wonderful journey, theres been loads of head scratching, tears, hang ups, late nights, sweat and blood, but ive finally (well nearly) done r2, got a few more bits to do on body, and ive got some bits to add to my dome, got mysellf some push buttons for the dome, the dome is a little big for the body, and theres a tiny over hang,as its not a club type dome, but overall im really pleased, he's still a static droid, but i aim to have the dome moving etc, as all his lights light up etc and more sound, heres some more pics, and I'll post some more soon as i update r2.
