Colin,
Would you mind sharing what materials you are using for the build?
Thank you,

Re: pics of my other (lol) project Optimus Prime
yes of course i can mate,
i guess ill start at the begining,
heres how he started, i started with a cube of wood and built the sides up with 2 layers of ply, to give the sides a pointed look i used good old p38 filler, then to get the round part of his head i use a kids army helmet from pound land.
then i started on the face, i started again with ply and good old p38, to raise the sides, a nose was added and as was a brow,
after some filling and flating a coat of pewter silver spary was added and a coat of laquar too.
next i started on his iconic faceplate, i made the template out of wood and then went about cutting some tin(a roses tin from xmas)
the finished mouthpiece ended up like this, with a raised layer on top of another piece.
next i wanted to give him his bright blue eyes so i cut up a spare bluray case and painted the back a nice light blue, giving him bright eyes, i the connect his faceplate the the face like so
from here i started on the crown piece, the middle of the head, like so
i then bought my self the new prime helmet, to sadly rip to pieces, i want the sound effects and other pieces too!!!!
i also start on the side pieces that wrap down the side of his face plate, the screws are to attach them to the rest of the head.
next i attached the pointed part of the crown, middle section, and filled with p38, flated on the side pieces
Right faceplate attached with silicone and a screw from either side to hold it there, there be hidden once side pieces go on,
finshed head before battle wear and tear added
Body was made from 3 sections of plywood, filled with p38 car filler, and primed,
heres the latest pics to date, grills added to top of cab, with sound effects too, hope this helps you
all the best
Colin

Re: pics of my other (lol) project Optimus Prime
hi folks
well between r2 and optimus im keeping busy, right next i started on optimus's grill, whih turned out really well, started with piece of wood cut to the right size, and to allow strips of aliuminum placed round the sides, to fit in the alocated place.
then run a smal strip up the centre like so.
i then cut small pieces and placed theover each other like so, this was quite a time consuming job,
i then place a strip the bottom and to the top, and run a thin strip down either side of the middle like so
then a good clean and to finish of, a chrome autobot badge for his grill,
just check it all fits ok in the cab, extra speaker added for more sound like so too
well till later guys.

Re: pics of my other (lol) project Optimus Prime
hi my fellow builders
right managed to crack on with my prime for bit and thought i'd share my progress,
first job i did was the middle section, the part his cab would sit on,and then eventually would all sit on the legs,
first thing first cut the basic shapes like so
then screwed and glued together like so
strength was added to top before top added, then rolled over and bottom pieces added to bring in the sides, it looks like wooden pair of pants now LOL!
inserts were added to bring the bottom part flush with the actual bottom, sort of giving it 2 layers and adding the part the legs will eventually slot onto
final outer detail was added to the underneath and the front, this will be flated and all holes filled later, as i also have the arms to build.
basic shape of upper arms cut and screwed together like so, i made 2, left and right shoulder
now primes arms come in slightly so again i done 2 and made the arms come in like so.
bottom parts of arm were made in similar way, like so and then i made a fixed joint, and connected the 2 pieces together like so.
now because both arms will not be set the same one of the arms i couldnt join as it would of made it awkward to work on,hence why im doing this arm first, so i put the completed arm to the side with the bottom part i made.
filled flated and primed the 2 parts of the arm like so, and strted to tackle the shoulder piece.
i then added some card stuck on with pva glue to add depth to him and primed over.
i then added some different detail to the step down part, before priming and coating in gloss white
once dry i started the red gloss part, once happy with the coats i flated the final coat with 1000 wet and dry and soapy water.
i then made my autobot badges using vinyl and white styrene
i polished the red back to a shine using cutting compound and wax added the autobot badge and some chrome trim detail, heres were im today
till all are one!

Re: pics of my other (lol) project Optimus Prime
hello again my fellow builders, next i started on the smoke stacks, these were easier thatn i thought, was just a case of finding the right size,
i bought 2 tins of choco waffers and flated one tin like so, added some wide chrome trim as my spacer and drilled 2 holes for me to attach to shoulder, like so
the top part of the exhaust comes from cocktail shaker, and extra detail was added with the thinner chrome trim.
it was then polished with aluminium soap and a buffing wheel and attached like so, let me know your thoughts,oh and the loo roll,is a temp till i get some chrome exhaust tips,
all the best
