Re: 3d Printed Parts Im interested in some of these Gordon. Question: how well will these plastic parts take to priming and if the parts are polished wouldn't they need to be roughed up a bit to take the primer?
Thanks

Re: 3d Printed Parts I primed the hand pistons with good results. The " white strong flexible" material holds paint nicely. It has a very subtle texture that the paint seems to like. I'm not sure about the polished versions but I would assume it would give similar results. When I get home tomorrow I'm going to fiddle around with the tet version of the knee pitons. I'll post photos after theyre primed.
Re: 3d Printed Parts These look great Gordon I commend your work I'm looking forward to owning a set of anything lol, has anyone tried gold leaf paint I've never used this but I'm wondering if it would look any good or work?
Re: 3d Printed Parts Iv just looked on eBay and the sheets are not overly expensive you would need the glue and a brush to apply it then I'm guessing clear lacquer to seal it this would look very much like brass and also 3po would have a bit do bling lol
Re: 3d Printed Parts I've done some experimenting with gold leaf. It IS possible to get it really shiny but the adhesive has to be perfectly smooth (not to mention the surface of whatever you're leafing...)
the slightest brush strokes will show up in the leafing. There are some tricks to get it pressed down nice and flat and pretty much make any seams completely vanish. I'll probably use this for some of the parts. If you haven't tried it yet, I'll post photos of it soon.
Re: 3d Printed Parts one suggestion for the Gold Leaf adhesive would be to run it through a cheap airbrush. This way would eliminate the brush strokes and provide an even coating.
