Coat of Chrome, in Pennsylvania

http://www.coatofchrome.com/home.php

it was about $300 for shorts and feet.

even though I know I should probably wait till I get the other parts in, it's very tempting to get the torso sent in too ;o)

not with coat of chrome

With the Ontario company, they not only crushed the head, but drilled holes into the excess parts....

Don at Coat of Chrome plated my suit as well.
he has done several, is easy to talk to, and has realistic time frames.
His shop has been chroming and powder coating for a long time. He knows his stuff.

Re: Build Thread...

second head should arrive in a week or two....I've got the proper size hole for the neck this time around too..

I'm so hoping for an early christmas present of arms and legs at the end of the month. At least I can assemble him fully and bring him to a possible charity radio event, even if he's not plated ;o)..

sure the kids won't mind if he's not all gold yet ;o).

second head has arrived. the worst part of 3P0 building is dremeling away all the exceess parts... real messy, dirty business. even with a mask and glasses on, it gets all over you.

The head fits perfectly, just like it did the first time before that canadian company crushed the back of it. At least I know it's in good hands with don.

Considering I might have a charity radio event at a kids hospital coming up on the 19th, I'm REAL tempted to send out the torso and new head and neck pipe to get chromed. I'll look that much more impressive to the hospital employees who want to take pictures with it.

I'm curious how much work needs to be done to the torso to get the arms to fit? any damage to the chrome I'd consider weathering at this point ;o). Just like with R2 over the years, he'll wear and tear anyway and won't stay perfect forever....the legs are already beat up on the paint job pretty good.

Great job man!
Where did you get the second head?
About a previous post you asked about how the shorts fit together, you probably found out by this time but apparently from what I've seen is that the front part goes on top of the back part and screwed on the upper sides.

In this video GT explains it well although he didn't screw his on.

Re: Build Thread...

ok, I feel better now. that is pretty much what I did.

Although I WAS thinking of cutting away the over lap so it looks like it's more one piece, but I think I better not mess with it.

the head was gotten by Jim aka starbuck they look awesome in person!

chromer sent in pictures of second batch... 2nd head, and torso. figured anything else I'd have to do to the torso to get the arms on would be considered weathering ;o). always looks great on R2 with natural wear and tear.
