Manaquins

Well, I tried the pipe build setup, and sadly i never could figure out how to attach the arms easily, so that leads me back to a manaq situation.

This site even has sizes.
Considering i bought the extra large threepio size, what would work best for him with these options?

I'd like to finally get threepio finished this year after about 10 months in pieces emoticon

Re: Manaquins

Interesting idea. Too bad they don't have a gold male. I don't have a suit to give you good advise but from the measurements posted and from discussions I've had with members here that do, you probably want to choose the ethnic male as he seems the smallest chest or a female as the outside chest measurement is 37 on even the large chests I believe so it may be a tight fit.

I would still be concerned about the arms on the manaquin as they don't usually make them adjustable beyond the shoulder pivot so you may end up building new arms with pipe to connect to the manaquin if you want him to have a bent at elbow arm pose. It appears hands are detachable which would be needed to slide on arms and most likely you would end up connecting your hands on their own without dummy hand as they don't have separate fingers typically.

Also is one leg mounted permanently to base? That would pose a challenge for one of the upper thighs unless you split it in half or mod the manaquin.

A headless one would allow more room for electronics if you need it for eyes and soundboard/speaker when on display.

Maybe take a tape measure to a nearby dept store and size one up to get an idea. Good luck.

I would not advise purchasing a mannequin for displaying Threepio, regardless of his dimensions. You will find that it is incredibly frustrating to alter a mannequin torso -- you're much better off making the necessary adjustments. That's all part of the fun of building a droid!

Re: Manaquins

I don't really mind at this point if the arms won't bent. I just want them to stay balanced on the thing.

OR If someone could put together a tutorial on how to get the stupid pipe system to properly work so it's stable, that would be good too.

I really have to twist the arms into the pipes, and even then they never go in at all.

there has to be an easier way to do it.

Gordon Tarpley has good video detailing his mannequin, several videos on it actually, this one details it part by part. Arms are about a minute in. Basically he uses smaller pipe inside the larger one to slide it in instead of trying to actually fit the shoulder pipe and arm pipe together with same size pipe.

Maybe this will help. emoticon
