Re: AlpineDarthMaul
Paint test done... Completely Gold now.
In this pic 2 items are painted by me and 2 are original...
It's not too hard to see the difference, but I'm very happy with the results.

Re: AlpineDarthMaul
Paint started on the shoes...
This is still a part of the testing process. I'm moving onto bigger items to get used to the way the paint sprays and how it goes on. I'm by no means a pro with a paint gun and so far I've been doing all the work with my airbrush. It's been easy enough to use, but I start each piece with a deep breath and a moment of silence... just cuz I don't want to mess it up.
The first coat is a jet black. After the black goes on, you build up 2 layers of clear coat gloss.
Then, you spray the metal paint... leaving just a bit of the black to show thru. It's a part of the reason it reflects as well as it does. Here are some pics inside and outside, flash and no flash.....

Re: AlpineDarthMaul
Absolutely incredible, I am very surprised you are able to get such results, using a paint! Very curious to see the results!!
Will you be leaving one foot silver?

Re: AlpineDarthMaul
Wow, fantastic Shawn! (You'll want to keep those ankles attached to the foot though so you don't have socks showing through between the shin the foot so don't trim them off).

Re: AlpineDarthMaul
Mr. Tea, I plan to have one silver leg yet the feet will both be gold. I had fooled around with the idea of doing a ROTS version of Threepio, but I really enjoy Threepio most in ANH and Empire. So, thats more what I'm aiming at. Tho, trying to keep him as clean as possible.
Chris, I was aware that the foot may show if I trimmed it too low so it had been my plan to leave the top of the shoe cover. Tho, I was worried that it would dig into my leg and thought about getting some kind of a foam trim to put around the top.
Gold coming soon!
Also, where is the thread about heating up the fiberglass to help change the shape? Anyone?

Re: AlpineDarthMaul
I think the info got wiped.
Chris(TK409), please feel free to edit if i am wrong..
" heat it up in the oven at 250 for a minute or two, then spread it slightly wider and cooled it in a sink of ice water. Be careful to not heat it drastically hot, nor try to spread too drastically wide, too fast. A little at a time is the way to do it."
