Fettpride's Home Depot C-3PO Greeblies

Hello all,

Some of you may already know me from TheDentedHelmet.com or the ReplicaPropsForum.
And those that do, also know I've been out of it for a few months delaing with health and surgery. So this is actually my first appearance in sometime on any board for that matter. So, in short, HI everyone !

I've been doing a few odds and ends as I've been recovering, and they had to do with my C-3PO casting that I received right before Celebration III this year. I needed to keep busy eith something, and figured this fit the bill.

In the following pictures, you will find most of C-3PO's pistons and greeblies made of brass. These are NOT machined components, with the excpetion of the neck rings/discs, and the aluminum antenna. The aluminum antenna will be replaced very soon with one of my own pieces. The Neck rings/discs are Russreps beautiful machined pieces, as will the eye grills be once they arrive. Evetything else, is made by me.

After reading about Zorg's Head Antenna Tutorial, I was inspired to attempt these greeblies on my own. Thanks Chris !!

A word about the pieces.

All pieces that you see here are made from everyday compression fittings, and a very few misc parts that are easy to obtain from a craft store. These components could cost a small fortune if they were machined, but can be made by anyone for pennies on the dollar. Each of the greeblies you see in the picture were no more than $10 to make. All togther, I've got about $50.00 in parts into these. I won't claim these are 100% accurate. But then again, there are no resin parts that come with these castings that are either.

My parts are based primarily on photo reference, but for general sizing, I used the resin parts that came with my DP casting. The best of both worlds as I see it. The front and rear piston are fully functional as well. I don't have all of them installed yet, but you can get the idea.

I WILL NOT be offering these to the boards, as they are time consuming to make. But If there is enough interest, I would be happy to consider making a tutorial, to help out the boards in any way I can. As expensive as it already is to do a C-3PO, I figure we could use a scratch alternative that is less expensive. All one would need, is a Bench Grinder, Rotary Tool, and a few misc. bits and blades.

I hope you enjoy the pics. Thanks for looking !

Thanks,

FP

This one shows a bit of tweaking done with a set of
Russreps neck rods. Albeit very nice rods from Russ,
they didn't fit the movie scheme that I was shooting for.
But thanks nevertheless Russ emoticon
