C-3PO in Paris!

Here is a "Mission Report" for an event I attended this past week. Im going to try and keep it brief.

Earlier this month I was offered the incredible opportunity (Thanks Chris!!) to appear as C-3PO for the 30 Year Anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, at the Jules Verne Festival* - in Paris, France!! I accepted (of course!) - And on April 23rd, me and my brother were on a plane.

Two very nice gentlemen were waiting for us at the airport, they took us on a quick tour of the city, and then to our hotel. We stayed at one of the best five star hotels in Paris, the Fouquet's Barriere located on the Champs Elysées. Our hotel was equipped with a bedroom, living room, 3 TV's, 3 bathrooms, 2 minibars, a view of the Arc de Triomphe, and our own personal butler! Apparently the hotel sponsors the event, so the room was provided. We felt like movie stars!

Thursday we went to a rehearsal at the Le Grand Rex Theater where we practiced a short dialogue. Afterwards me and my brother went out on the town - to the Arc de Triomphe, the top of the Eiffel Tower, and the Statue of Liberty! When back at the hotel, we did a test fitting of the suit to make sure everything was in order.

I offered to be used as much as they wanted me, so Jean-Christophe (The President of the Jules Verne Foundation) asked me to appear in front of 2,700 children on Friday morning at the Rex theater. It went perfect! The children cheered and chanted and Jean-Christophe used me to promoted healthy eating and an environmental mindset. The kids were so happy, and so well behaved! Afterwards, we went back the hotel, out to eat, and then back to the Rex for the big event!

Friday evening I appeared on the red carpet along side R2D2 and some friends from the 501st French Garrison. We anxiously awaited the arrival of the guest of honor - the one and only Mark Hamill! He was so friendly, signing every scrap of paper the fans presented him. We were put almost an hour behind schedule because he insisted on signing everything!! Here is a picture of me and mark on the red carpet:

After the red carpet, R2 and I started the sold out (3,700 seats!) show with a short skit with pre-recorded dialogue, and then waited patiently back stage for the award to be presented. Mark was backstage with us, and my brother asked if he could sign my back-plate, he seemed honored! After some trailers, a choreographed saber dual (between two professionals), and a Q&A session with Mark, we went back on stage to help present the award. A pre-recorded video from George Lucas was played and the award was presented to Mark! After the show we were invited into the 'VIP Lounge' along with our 501st friends. When Mark arrived, Jean-Cristophe called me over to introduce me to him! He seemed exhausted, but was so friendly, he shook my hand and allowed me to have photo with him. After an long night, and 3 and a half hours straight in my shiny gold death suit - We caught a taxi back to our hotel.

On Saturday morning we were asked to have C3PO take pictures around the hotel! We had a blast, all the receptionists and important looking business people we so happy to take their picture with C-3PO :P My brother and I then headed out for some more sight seeing (The Louvre and Notre Dame) and then headed back to the Rex to say goodbye to our new friends! After an extraordinary night, we felt our trip was complete.

On Sunday morning we flew back home. What an experience!!!
