Re: Building C3PO from Scratch

John, I want you to know that your persistance with this project has encouraged me to pick up where I left off on my protocol head sculpt. I was very discouraged after I had pulled a resin copy of my early clay sculpt only to have it damaged in a wind storm. I've pieced it back together, covered it in bondo and am waiting for it to cure as we speak.

Re: Building C3PO from Scratch

I really appreciate the comments and Kind words. I've looked around for a good robot building club to belong to that stresses fellow builders working together and inspiring each other in a positive and constructive way. I guess this is it.

I hope inspite of my time demands I can get this done before halloween. It's 1:00 AM and i'm on my way to Wal Mart with my 11 year old daughter to get bondo, sandpaper and hamster food.

I hope to finish the entire torso by Saturday night, and I can't wait to cut it in half and try it on. I will be prepared tomorrow to work and hopefully complete it.

By the way, abondoning a project is part of its success. I've spent many frustrating hours trying to solve something that went out of my control. Sometimes, its better to let it go, take a fresh breath, put your shoulders back and stick your chest out and put stock in yourself. It's not just a cool slogan, you can do anything you really want to do. For some strange reason, this is what I choose to do.

Weird huh?

John

Got up a little late but here we go,,,,
I will start patching the torso back area in a few minutes.

Here is the page http://www.geocities.com/johnfosterufochaser/torso17.html This is where I left off before molding.

By the way, look at the difference between average C3PO size shoulder bell and my torso. The actual difference is about a half an inch larger for mine. I wanted to add this piece to this item but I think I'll leave it alone and make another one, or two.

Bare with me as I load the pics. I'm determined to finish this today.

Okay, got the trim on, filled in some pitted areas. I also added on the back rib sections. Notice mine are way too big. Why you ask? Well it's easier to take away from bondo then to keep adding.

If you do add too much, well this is what it looks like.

Already begun sanding, add another pic soon.

Re: Building C3PO from Scratch

Hey guys,

Let me start by saying thanks to T.K., it is a lot of dedication and hard work.

I just wanted to update real quick. I just got back in town and i'm packing my bags again to go to Defiance Ohio. I'll be there for about 4 days. I want to take a piece or two with me, but i got in trouble last time because of nosey hotel guest complaining about the smell! I plan about 14 hours per day working, hopefully i'll fall into bed and sleep hard. I want to go to Port Clinton Ohio and visit some family but I will probably miss out. My wife and kids will go and i'll be able to work on 3PO the whole weekend that's left.

Wish me luck, it's not easy being me.

John
