Re: Quick question
No worries! Maybe those pre wired LEDs are the way to go anyway. A little easier on my wallet.

Re: Quick question
Here is a light engine that will do the sweep and other light effects. It runs on 12V and will run leds nicely. The board is to big to go in the helmet so will have to be fed from the outside.
You can control the speed with a built in potentiometer. It comes 2 ways (built and kit form). I recommend built unless you have some skill with soldering.(which I don't ) come to find out with numerous failures)

Re: Quick question
Thanks Brad, I'll keep that in mind. If I do go with that I will probably put the LEDs in the helmet and the board in the "back pack", but does that say it runs on 12V DC, does that mean it will have to be plugged in?
The back pack I speak of, Which I made a replica of last time and I will probably use the same one for my new helmet. It has tubes running from the back pack up to the helmet for wires.

Re: Quick question
Well, I don't really know anywhere that I could get cheap motorcycle helmets, and I'm not sure I trust myself enough to tear one apart. Maybe if I were to do Guy Manuel's, I would try a motorcycle helmet. But I jst don't see it as necessary with Thomas', as there's not really a noticeable motorcycle helmet shape to it. I'll figure something out. Thanks for the tips with bondo, and no paper mache for me.
Oh, and also, is Wal Mart going to card me when buying bondo? I'm only 16.

Re: Quick question
Arafinwe,
Nice work by the way on your costume!
Yawasa makes a small 12volt battery that is used for emergency lighting ,3inch. / 3inch. under 7 ounces .It is a gell cell battery that can be recharged on a small trickle charger for a car .It is about $20.00.The connections on top of the battery come with slide on tabs or small bolts.
The leds pull almost no power and will run for days on a single charge.
A baseball helmet was used on someones daft punk reproduction.( you can get these used on ebay (cheap).

Re: Quick question
So they won't card me? I might pick some up sometime next week. I was also thinking of maybe using a plastic bowl for the dome, but I'm sure I would have to sand it down quite a bit in order for the bondo to take.

Re: Quick question
Hey Arafinwe,
Can you repost on a new thread of your progress photos on your build of your Daft Punk helmet ? It would help the new fresh people coming in that are fans.
I would love to see how it was developed from the baseball helmet! I remember it from a while ago and UtherX will enjoy the tutorial.

Re: Quick question
Sure, I might start my own thread in the astromechs and other droids section some time, maybe when I start my new helmet soon, and I'll document my old helmet as well.
A plastic bowl may work, and sanding it is a good idea. You might want to get a hard hat liner or something along those lines to put inside of out, so it will stay on your head better, similar to what they do with some stormtrooper kits.
