Re: Death Star Droid
Anyone have any ideas on getting a mirrored effect on the eyes so you can see through them like mirrored lenses? How do they do that anyway?

Re: Death Star Droid
I read somewhere that the process for mirrorizing a lens is done using vacuum metallization, just with a thinner buildup of metal.
Whoever you get vacuum metallizing done for gold parts would be the people to ask about this. You could cast lenses in clear resin or molded plexi, I guess.
random quote from some website:
"The relationship between thickness and transparency is not so straightforward. Under ideal conditions where density is 100%, the metals start becoming opaque at about 100 angstroms (0.01 micron). The transparency beyond that is a function of pin-holes which are determined by the material, its surface and other process conditions. In general terms, I would say you need about 500 A or below thickness. Typical opaque reflective coatings are about 1000 to 2000 A. Ask for decreasing thickness and see which one you like."

Re: Death Star Droid
Ah, I didn't know vacuumetallizing was see-thru at certain thicknesses - great info Dookie. You could do the goggles in vacu-formed clear plastic and chrome over that.

Re: Death Star Droid
I made an upgrade part to replace the star detail on the GA head. I made a casting. I can offer the part to anyone on this board who wants one. PM me for my address, send me a few stamps and I send you one. On my GA head I also recessed that triangular area on the forehead, that is the way it is in the reference photos. Has anyone ever seen the back of the head on the original prop?

Nicely done GG! You're right about the recessed area too - never realized that till now.
