Gordon Tarpley Still some work to go but I've finally got the suit to a place where I feel it's worth a gallery.
Just finished the suit, in silver (E-3PO or TC-14) in time for Celebration VI. Quite a bit of weathering was added to the finish to give a more lived-in look. Over the next few weeks the suit will be cleaned back up to be extra shiny again and tinted gold to become an actual C-3PO

My crew for the first day out in the suit. I was completely mobbed for photos and It was really helpful having all of these guys to watch out for me.
The awesomely talented Mr.Bartlett allowed me to tag along.

I don't know if you've done this now. But I have been adding felt cloth at places which I expect much friction. I.e near the knees and the joint-area where the shins slide over the thighs. This way, the legs also keep themselves aligned pretty good.
I haven't worn the suit yet, so I have yet to see if this was a good idea or not. But I am also thinking about adding the same filt material around the shoulder bells and the inside of the bottom of the shims to (hopefully) protect the arms and the shoes as well.
Re: Gordon Tarpley Yeah, I actually bought felt to go in the inside of the thighs and shoulders where parts rub but in my hurry to get everything together I forgot to install it! doh!
BUT tis, ok. The only part that got much abuse was the shorts, which I'll be redoing anyway so I wasn't too sad. Chris advised me on using surf or ski wax for the knee friction. Best advise ever. The stuff worked great!
BTW, intro to my metal tutorial is posted on my blog. I'll be adding chapters to the process soon.
Re: Gordon Tarpley Sorry, for being vague. The wax is used where the knees rub. Keeps them from squeaking. I used it along the "fin" that guides the knees and on all the other parts that were touching. Works like a charm.
